1988 - Pakistan vs. West Indies
In the first of Minden Cricket’s Classic Series packs, we bring you Pakistan in the West Indies from 1988. While this three Test series is remembered as a tense, monumental battle that saw the Windies loose their first home match in a decade, the Pakistan team had low expectations before the start of the Tour.
As the team readied itself for the trip to the West Indies, Imran Khan was a retired former great all rounder, and Pakistan's bowling duo, Wasim Akram and Abdul Qadir, were both injured.
“However, Imran yielded to immense public pressure and a personal request from the President of Pakistan … to come out of retirement,” according to Wisden's report on the Series. Imran’s decision was one “which no-one regretted, for the Test series that followed was an epic one”.
With extraordinary batting from legends such as Viv Richards and Javed Miandad, a player v fan tussle that ended up in court, and a series that provided the Windies with one of their toughest challenges during one of their most dominant periods, this series is a must have for fans of statistical cricket board games.
