The 2002–03 Ashes saw Australia at the height of their powers, steamrolling England 4–1 in a dominant display. Steve Waugh’s men clinched the series by the third Test, as the likes of McGrath, Gillespie and Warne dismantled England. England salvaged pride with a dead-rubber win in Sydney, but the gulf between the sides was vast. Despite the defeat Michael Vaughan's sublime 633 runs showed a hint of what was to come in the next Ashes.
