England, led by Peter May, won the 1956 Ashes 2-1 in five Tests. Jim Laker’s 19 wickets at Old Trafford, including 10/53, crushed Australia, while Peter May’s century and Colin Cowdrey’s form kept them under the pump. Australia had a consolation win at Lord's but rain and England’s spinners, Laker and Lock, were too much for the Aussies this time around.
